The Tarlac State University delegation braved the inclement weather to show solidarity in the SCUAA III Olympics opening ceremony held this afternoon (May 19) at the Tarlac Agricultural University gymnasium in Camiling, Tarlac.

Despite not having the traditional opening at the grandstand, the TSUian representatives among the 277 athletes, 53 coaches and trainers, 21 officials, and 39 support staff attended the program to showcase the TSUian brand of sportsmanship and camaraderie.

The university's delegation is led by TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco and Sports Development and Management Head Dr. Ligaya Gina S. Salangsang, who are both optimistic about this year's regional sports meet.

"Seeing them (athletes) change and mature enough to accept whatever it is, it is something to me already. Bonus na lang 'yung panalo. Ang gusto kong makita sa kanila, 'yung different student-athletes from TSU wherein they will act as mature athletes, professional athletes," Dr. Salangsang said in an interview.

Meanwhile, Pres. Velasco remained grounded on the possible outcome of the SCUAA III.

"It has to be realistic, and I know that God will be with us. And sa core values natin, may 'unity,' lahat ay posible," Pres. Velasco said in an interview.

Dr. Lora L. Yusi, CHED Regional Office III director, graced the highly anticipated sports event participated by 13 state universities and colleges in Central Luzon.

"Together, please let us make history. Know that when they say 'Region III,' tatak CHED, tatak mahusay, tatak Region III [na] mahusay lahat ng mga atleta..." Dr. Yusi said in her speech.

The games will commence tomorrow, May 20, in different venues in Tarlac Province. (jlmm-OPA)
